Films - fiction

The Woman from the North by Bernard MacLaverty is a moving drama which goes to the human heart of old age and its anxieties.

It is the story of Cassie who has been placed in a home in Dublin by her only son after he finds himself in a dilemma. His mother has begun to neglect herself. He has a good job in England and cannot come home to look after her so he makes the effort to have his mother assessed by those most qualified to do so - the medical profession. Can she live on her own? And if not is there a humane alternative?

It is a poignant story of a journey through assessment from the viewpoint of the person with dementia.
