Mature Times Book Review

Pictures to Share, the Social Enterprise established to provide innovative books for people with dementia has released amongst its latest titles - 'A Sporting Life' and 'In the Garden'.

Both books have been specifically designed following extensive research to cater for those with dementia either at home or in a care setting.

The books provide beautiful, large scale, clear images in a range of styles and combine with some short texts to help stimulate a conversation.  Based around individual interests, not specific memories, the books can be shared and enjoyed with carers and visitors.

The book 'A Sporting Life' includes pictures and evocative images of popular sports froms football to pigeon racing and motors sports to ice dancing.  Full of energy and excitement, this book will remind readers of the joys and disappointments experienced in a sporting life.

'In The Garden' offers the reader a breath of fresh air and the sense of stepping out into the garden.  This book provides a taste of life in the garden from growing vegetables to playing in the snow.  At the same time, bright and detailed images of flowers and garden wildlife bring the beauty of nature indoors to be enjoyed all year round.

The books in the Pictures to Share range have been designed after extensive research by another Social Enterprise 'Innovations in Dementia' who have carried out trials to discover what type of images people with dementia can understand and enjoy.  The research is undertaken with people in care homes and day centres across the county and has allowed Pictures to Share to build up significant expertise in understanding what type of images positively engage those with dementia.
