Latest on the Elise Pilkington Libraries in Care Homes Project
The first
year of the Elise Pilkington Libraries in Care Homes project is drawing to a
close and the results have been very positive. So much so that the project is
hoping for funding to carry on and extend their work in 2010.
In
partnership with Methodist Homes for the Aged, Innovations in Dementia and The
Mrs Pilkington Charitable Trust, Pictures to Share have been instrumental in
trialling small library units within five MHA care homes. These small library
units are sited in care home lounges and staff take part in training in how to
encourage the use of suitable books with people with dementia.
The
libraries have been well used and both staff and residents have seen many
positive outcomes from the project. A full report will be presented at the
Congress of Dementia Care in Harrogate in early November 2009. This report will
be available on this website following the conference.
